Coach Adam Kedge, 2016 Boys Tennis Team, and Alum Alex Bregman ’12 to be Honored at NMSHOF Awards Banquet

Albuquerque Academy will be well represented at the 44th annual New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Banquet in April. Longtime coach Adam Kedge was selected as a 2016 Inductee to the Hall of Fame. Adam has coached cross country and track and field for 25 years in the state of New Mexico, with the past 20 being at the Academy. His Academy teams have won 23 state championships and he has been named the New Mexico High School Coach of the Year 13 times. He will join two former Charger coaches in the Hall of Fame; Ashby Harper 1987 inductee, and Dave Barney 1995 inductee.

Two awards presented at the banquet will have Academy ties. The 2016 Academy Boys Tennis Team has been named the High School Team of the Year after winning the state championship.  Not only did the team win every match during the season, they only lost one set. During the season, the Chargers also beat both the 6A and 4A state champions. Coach Ray Jaramillo said, "This is probably one of the most dominant teams in the history of New Mexico sports, not just New Mexico tennis."  Last year’s state championship was the team's 14th consecutive title. The student-athletes being honored are Jack Apodaca ’16, Jack Keller ’16, Henry Collis ’16, Malachi Coleman ’17, George Brunacini ’17, Jack Daly ’17, Ben Hwang ’18, Abraham Yohannes ’19, Sage Min ’19, Alex McLaughlin ’19, Hunter Hootman ’19, Coleton Hootman ’19, and Graham Collis ’20.

Academy alum Alex Bregman ’12 was named the Professional Athlete of the Year. After being drafted second overall in the 2015 draft, Alex moved quickly through the Astro’s minor league system ultimately making his major league debut on July 25. In 49 games with Houston, Alex hit .246 with 8 home runs and 31 runs batted in. Along with solidifying a spot with the Astros, he was also awarded many other awards including the USA Today Minor League Player of the Year.

The 44th annual New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Sunday, April 9 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. For more info, go to www.nmshof.com.
